Role of Oxidative Stress in Liver Disorders

چکیده

Oxygen is vital for life as it required many different enzymatic reactions involved in intermediate metabolism and xenobiotic biotransformation. Moreover, oxygen consumption the electron transport chain of mitochondria used to drive synthesis ATP meet energetic demands cells. However, toxic free radicals are generated byproducts molecular consumption. Oxidative stress ensues not only when production reactive species (ROS) exceeds endogenous antioxidant defense mechanism cells, but can also occur a consequence an unbalance between strategies. Given important role hepatocytes biotransformation xenobiotics, ROS represents critical event liver physiology, increasing evidence suggests that oxidative contributes development diseases. The present review, which part special issue “Oxidant Liver Diseases”, aims provide overview sources targets diseases highlights pivotal cell death. In addition, current therapies treatment options such disorders their limitations future trial design discussed.

Hepatic Oxidative Stress: Role of Liver Biopsy

Free radicals are highly reactive substances produced continuously during metabolic processes. They participate mainly in physiological events such as the immune response, metabolism of unsaturated fatty acids, and inflammatory reaction. The balance between free radicals and antioxidants is disrupted in many diseases. This disruption may be attributed to a number of factors such as the inabilit...

Role of oxidative stress and antioxidant supplementation in pregnancy disorders.

Oxidative stress is widely implicated in failed reproductive performance, including infertility, miscarriage, diabetes-related congenital malformations, and preeclampsia. Maternal obesity is a strong risk factor for preeclampsia, and in a recent study we observed oxidative stress in the oocytes of obese animals before pregnancy as well as in early-stage embryos. This adds to the growing evidenc...

The Role of Oxidative Stress and Antioxidants in Liver Diseases.

A complex antioxidant system has been developed in mammals to relieve oxidative stress. However, excessive reactive species derived from oxygen and nitrogen may still lead to oxidative damage to tissue and organs. Oxidative stress has been considered as a conjoint pathological mechanism, and it contributes to initiation and progression of liver injury. A lot of risk factors, including alcohol, ...

Role of oxidative stress in pathogenesis of metabolic syndrome

The metabolic syndrome (MS) recognized as a major cause of type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular diseases, has become one of the major public health challenges worldwide. The pathogenesis of the metabolic syndrome is multiple and still poorly understood. No single factor has yet been identified as an underlying causal factor. There is a growing belief, however, that obesity, specially visceral obe...
